Third generation Wagenswest rear caliper brackets, for 944 Porsche cars 1983-89.

CNC machined and tested on split buses for years. These put Wilwood 120-13839 type calipers on the rear suspension of both steel and aluminum trailing arm naturally aspirated  944 Porsche cars (non turbo).

Some light machining is required on both the caliper, and the mount. See photos for more details.

Wagenswest originally designed this Porsche 944 Wilwood brake kit, for outlaw VW bus builders. Bus and General Volkswagen air cooled restorers / builders both use 944 front rotors, hubs, spindles, +  rear hubs, rotors, and IRS trailing arms. This scavenging of junk yards from VW heads for 944 suspension parts. Has worked so well, that this has made 944 Porsche lovers have to compete for used parts with VW bus enthusiast.

Anyway the only thing that sucks on 944 brakes are the calipers. That is why we set out to make this kit, and it has worked very well. In fact this hub and bolt on rotor design, that you see in the 944, is from the 911. Wagenswest has inserted it into most of our brakes that we make for VW buses.

This Porsche 944 Wilwood caliper kit was engineered to install Wilwood 4 piston calipers on all 4 corners of a naturally aspirated, Porsche 944 from 1983-89. The front calipers have 4 x 1.75″ pistons and the rear are 4 x 1.38″, the difference in piston size from front to rear is for hydraulic proportion, putting more pressure to the front wheels like it should be.

This kit will also fit the 924 S cars (5 lug non Brembo cars). If you have questions about the fitment feel free to email the shop.

Works with stock 944 master cylinder. Or 1971-79 Bus master cylinder.

NOTE — in the rear you will need to die grind or clearance the bearing cap casting ears to make room for the Wilwood caliper – see photo 1– and photo 2.

This kit comes with

4  calipers, 4 custom caliper mounts, 2 sets of – a total of 8 pads, brake line adapters, and mounting hardware. Calipers come in either anodize gun metal gray or red powder coated “for an added charge”.

A front disc brake kit, for mid 1963 to 1970 Volkswagen buses, when converting to Porsche bolt pattern.

Engineered slowly over the years. Honestly this type of disc brake conversion really started with bus enthusiast adapting 944 front hubs and 944 rotors to the 1963-70 VW bus spindles. On these early conversions,we used stock Porsche hubs and rotors, bearing spacers, stretched caps, custom brackets and stock calipers. Over time it has become considerably harder to source OEM Porsche parts. These used parts are often found to be in very poor shape.

Now

Years later, after making needed modifications to the hub design, we started making them new – out of 6061 billet aluminum.  Added new grease caps, billet Wilwood caliper brackets and 4 piston Wilwood calipers, now we have the best Porsche disc conversion you can get for your VW bus.

Using high quality components, mostly all made here in the USA – this kit is a great way to stop your bus.  When it comes time for new rotors you can just order them from your local auto parts store or online, Because we are using readily available parts that work!  These brakes work on stock or dropped spindles and will fit inside most stock and aftermarket Porsche 15″ inch wheels.

In the kit is everything in the photos + pads, everything to do the job minus grease and brake fluid. And you might consider installing a disc brake compatible master cylinder.

This kit is the result of many years of refining our other disc brake kits, with help from our customers and their input. Designed to fit inside your stock 14”inch VW bus wheels, and will fit inside most any wheel you will put on the front of your 73-79 bus. Despite having a large 11”inch rotor and a Quality US made 4 piston Wilwood caliper, this brake kit only has a + 5mm offset, And it comes with all the parts needed to do the conversion except for grease.

Replacement parts are all readily available.

The rotors are from a 944/911 Porsche. The bearings are the stock ones for your bus and same with the seals and the caliper is one of the most common, made by Wilwood. We build this disc brake kit in house on our machines in Salem Oregon and we are very proud to offer it to you. This disc kit ships with a stock 112mm bolt pattern.
